Mixed Media Fiber Paintings

Working on fabric, I "paint" with colored thread incorporating extensive free-motion embroidery, the encaustic process, transfer images and hand-painted applique pieces. Click the title above to view samples.

Through experimentation I have developed a technique of painting that has the look of watercolor yet consists of the following combination. On fabric, I apply an underpainting of pigmented wax and dye, adding to this layer upon layer of prismacolor pencil, watching as an image appears. This intrigues and holds me–a successful marriage of technique and vision. Click the title above to view samples.
